A spokesperson for the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (ASGI) has said today that pay levels for its members must be restored to what they were in 2008.
The AGSI annual conference begins in Co Meath this afternoon, and the issue of pay is set to feature prominently.
According to the AGSI, Gardai have sustained 14% in pay cuts across the board.
The association’s general-secretary, John Redmond, said: “It’s not an increase in pay, it’s the restoration of the cuts – and we’re very clear about that” he said.
“And what’s more is we don’t expect to get 14% this year, but we do expect – having listened to Government and having listened to the Minister for Public Expenditure say that the country has recovered and is recovering rapidly – we want that to translate into a restoration of some portion of the pay that was cut from our members.”
