The Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan has moved to reassure the pubic once again by echoing the Tánaiste’s recent comments by insisting that the Gardaí and the Defence Forces have the capability to deal with any potential terrorist threat.
Ms O’Sullivan who fully agree with Ms Fitzgerald’s sentiment said the Garda Armed Response Unit will be given more recruits’ in the next fortnight that will see its ranks increased by a third.
The Garda Commissioner also revealed that the number of armed gardaí available on a 24-hour basis will be deployed throughout the country.
Ms O’Sullivan also said that Garda officers along with officers frim the defence forces have been running a number of drills to prepare for such a scenario.
