Garda continue investigation after Knife-wielding man threatens staff in Cork pub as two workers injured




Two workers were injured in a horrific accident during the week after a knife-wielding man attacked them in a Cork city pub.

The man was arrested after the Briar Rose incident on Douglas Road around 6:00 pm on Saturday night.

The popular club was forced to close for the rest of the night, while luckily the two workers were fine and did not need to go to hospital.

The suspect in his forties is currently being held at Togher Garda police station, while a Garda spokesman said the investigation was ongoing.

The Briar Rose said they will reopen at noon on Sunday and now things are “absolutely fine”.

According to The Mirror, they said: “Evening folks. Would like to address an incident tonight in the Bar, for which were remaining closed For the rest of the night. Thankfully everybody is absolutely fine, and nothing to be concerned about any further. Looking forward to getting our doors back open tomorrow at 12!”

The garda spokesperson said: “Shortly after 6pm, on Saturday the 12th of November 2022, Gardaí were alerted to an incident in a public house in Douglas, Cork. The alarm was raised after staff two members were allegedly assaulted in the course of an incident with a male armed with a knife. Both staff members were assessed and treated at the scene by medical personnel. A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene by investigating Gardaí and taken to Togher Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984,” reports The Mirror.

“The investigation is ongoing,” he added, reports The Mirror.
