An investigation has been launched by Gardaí after a fight broke out between two housemates over “washing dishes”, leaving one man in his 20s hospitalised with head injuries, reports SundayWorld.

The unusual altercation happened just after 9pm last night on the outskirts of Bailieboro, Co Cavan, and detectives have now started inquiries into the incident.

When Gardaí arrived at the scene, they found the man injured—believed by sources to have suffered the wounds from an alleged headbutt, reports SundayWorld.

He was taken to Cavan General Hospital for medical attention, with a formal Garda investigation now underway.

A major focus of the investigation will likely be gathering statements from the man who was injured and any witnesses who may have seen what happened.

According to sources, early indications suggest the argument stemmed from a disagreement between the two men about dishwashing duties, reports SundayWorld.

“Two lads were sharing a room and a row broke out over washing dishes and one headbutted the other,” said the source, reports SundayWorld.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed the incident and said inquiries into the altercation remain in the early stages.

“Gardaí received report of an assault that occurred in the Derryham area of Bailieboro, Co. Cavan at approximately 9:15pm on Thursday, 14th of August 2025. A man aged in his 20s was conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained during this incident. Investigations are ongoing,” said the spokesperson, reports SundayWorld.
