Gardaí in Cork have begun an investigation after a man was seriously injured following an alleged assault in the city centre on Thursday night.
The investigation comes after the man aged in his 40s was attacked on Patrick Street at approximately 9.15pm on Thursday evening.
Gardaí say the man is currently in critical condition in Mercy University Hospital.
