Gardai in Co Wicklow have begun an investigation in recent days after three pet deer were shot by heartless thugs at Santa’s grotto in Roundwood.

It is believed the defenceless animals who were housed at Djouce Golf Club, were shot and dragged away from the hotel on the night of Friday 15th December.

According to The Wicklow News the deer which consisted of one male and two females were feared dead after staff at the Golf Club discovered a trail a blood in the pen they were housed in.

Gardai say an investigation is currently ongoing but they believe the deer could have been shot by poachers from a short distance away.

The news of the deers deaths has left many local people outraged as they were one of the main attractions of the Golf Club’s Santa’s Journey Christmas Experience which is specifically catered for children.
