GardaĆ are investigating the finding of a human hand at a school in north Dublin, reports RTE.
It is suspected that a bird dropped the horribly deteriorated body part onto the school yard about 10.30 a.m.
There were no students in the school because it was closed for the midterm break.
The adult human leg was discovered at 12.30pm, prompting a notice to the gardaĆ, reports RTE.
Detectives inspected the area’s CCTV footage and the scene before removing the hand for forensic investigation.
Forensic Science Ireland will conduct DNA tests to try to identify the individual involved, reports RTE.
GardaĆ are receptive to any leads and will investigate further.
There is no evidence of anything malicious at this point.
The hand might have been transported by seagulls from the coast, and investigators will also search the missing person’s database, reports RTE.
GardaĆ reported finding fragmentary human remains at a business in Darndale, Dublin 17 this afternoon,
“A scene is currently being held and the State Pathologist has been notified, in line with standard practice. The remains will be removed for examination and DNA analysis, which will assist gardaĆ in confirming the identity and determine the course of the investigation. Enquiries are ongoing,” the statement said, reports RTE.
