Gardai in Co Roscommon have launched an investigation after an officer was shot late last night.
According to RTE News, the officer was seriously injured after he was shot near Castlerea Garda Station.
It is understood that the armed detective was shot a number of times after his firearm was taken from him.
Gardai say a man aged in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the incident and he is currently being detained at Castlerea Garda Station.
