A Garda is recovering in hospital this morning after a serious attack in Co Cavan left a gun pointed at him.
The incident occurred on Monday morning around 2am near the town of Blacklion and not far from Lough House open-air prison.
The Garda managed to raise the alarm around 2am and alert his colleagues, but they were bewildered when they found him and were unable to explain what had happened.
Gardaí are trying to determine if the Garda may have stopped a suspicious car in the area before the incident.
At least two men participated in the attack. This story is developing.
