A renewed appeal has been launched for information about the accident that killed Fintan Traynor 12 years ago in County Monaghan, reports RTE.

The 20-year-old was returning home from a night in Castleblaney in the early morning of Sunday 26 June 2011 when he was hit by a car on Lemgar Road.

This road connects the villages of Clontibret and Anyalla with Derrynoose and Keady in County Armagh.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene.

GardaĆ believe a 1996-2001 Audi A4 model was involved in the accident, reports RTE.

The lower part of the front grille of such a car was recovered from the site.

On the 12th anniversary of Mr. Traynor’s death, the Gardai renew their appeal for information on the fatal hit-and-run.

More than 400 leads have been investigated over the past decade, but the car and driver have still not been located.

Detective Inspector Adrian Durcan of the Monaghan Garda District said that over time someone may feel more comfortable sharing information about what happened.

“Do you know someone who may have had damage to an Audi car around this period? Did someone confide in you? In 12 years, loyalties, friendships and relationships change and perhaps now you are in a position to provide the investigation team with the vital information that would locate the vehicle and driver”, he said, reports RTE.
