The search for a man who had been missing from Dublin for five days has been called off after the discovery of a body, gardaí have confirmed.

Neil Donoghue, aged 49, had been reported missing from Tyrellstown in Dublin 15 since Saturday, January 31, reports The Mirror.

Gardaí issued a public appeal shortly after he disappeared, describing Neil as approximately 5ft 10in tall, with brown hair and blue eyes.

At the time, officers said both his family and gardaí held serious concerns for his welfare, reports The Mirror. Gardaí said: “Gardai are seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the whereabouts of Neil Donoghue (49), who was reported missing from Tyrellstown, Dublin 15. Neil was last seen on 31st January 2026. Neil is described as being approximately 5 foot 10 inches in height, with brown hair and blue eyes. It is not known what Neil was wearing when last seen.”

In a deeply upsetting update issued this afternoon, gardaí confirmed the missing persons appeal had been stood down following the discovery of a body. They also expressed thanks to members of the public for their assistance.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Following the discovery of a body of a male, the missing person appeal in respect of Neil Donoghue (49), who was reported missing from Tyrellstown, Dublin 15 on 31st January 2026, has been stood down. An Garda Siochana would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance”, reports The Mirror.
