
A garda is currently suspended from duty as part of an investigation into the death of a man in Dublin city centre, reports RTE.
The 51-yr-old man passed away earlier this week after sustaining critical injuries during an encounter with gardaÃ.
The incident occurred near the Holiday Inn on O’Connell Street last Friday, reports RTE.
Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, has launched an independent criminal probe.
According to Fiosrú, the incident took place around 4.15am and involved the man suffering serious harm, which led to his death.
A member of Fiosrú’s on-call investigation team was dispatched to the scene, reports RTE.
The agency has been in contact with both the Dublin City Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist concerning the post-mortem.
A representative for An Garda SÃochána stated: “A member of An Garda SÃochána based in the Dublin region has been suspended from duty in connection with an ongoing investigation being carried out by the Office of the Police Ombudsman, Fiosrú”, reports RTE.
Fiosrú has called on anyone who might have relevant details to come forward.
This request includes drivers who may have dashcam footage or mobile recordings from the area at the time, reports RTE.

The investigative team, along with a designated family liaison officer, is maintaining direct communication with the deceased man’s relatives.
An Garda SÃochána is legally obligated to notify the ombudsman about any incident involving death or serious injury that occurs after contact with a garda officer, reports RTE.
