Gardai have advised motorists to be extra vigilant over the Easter bank holiday weekend after numerous crashes have been reported over the past 24 hours.
Heavy rain has seen accidents occur mainly on motorways but gardai say that B roads in particular will be badly affected from heavy rainfall.
Easter Bank Holiday Monday is likely to be a washout, as the national forecaster is predicting heavy, blustery rain which may turn into sleet/snow in places.
Outdoor activities are likely to be off for most of the festive weekend due to dismal weather conditions, best weather expected on Saturday morning/afternoon.
The outlook for next week is for more unsettled weather, with rain showers and risk of thunder in places.
