Gardaí are urging Christmas shoppers to be vigilant of pick pockets as theft is at its peak in December

With the last few days of Christmas shopping in full flow, gardai have advised shoppers to be extra vigilant as pick pockets are out and about in force.

Garda Kelvin Courtney told The Liberal:

“Customers should be careful while shopping.  People should only park in well lit up secure areas. Lock your car doors while driving through the city. Don’t leave property or cash on view, take it with you. Report all thefts and suspicious activities to staff or Gardai”.

“I would strongly advise shoppers to be extra careful with the wallets and purses not to have them in their back pockets or loosely in the coat pockets. Thefts can be up into the hundreds of euros quite easily so we strongly advise people to be very careful.”

“Handbags and mobile phones are the most commonly stolen items so make sure both are very secure”.
