Gardaí in Cork have arrested a man after a gentleman was stabbed during a burglary on Tuesday evening.
The arrest comes the pensioner was attacked his home in the Gurranabraher area of the city at approximately 6pm.
It is understood the man was stabbed after he confronted the intruder.
However the man was assisted when neighbours heard his cries for help, which prompted the burglar to flee the scene.
Gardaí say the man was taken to hospital for treatment, but it is believed that his injuries are not life-threatening.
They added that a man in his 30s has been arrested and detained under Section 4 of the CJA 1984 at Gurranabraher Garda Station.
