Gardai ask for the public’s help after woman loses €8,000 to fake bank employee scam

Gardaí are appealing for public assistance in connection with a case of deception in which a woman was tricked into handing over her bank cards to someone she believed to be a genuine bank employee.

The case is being featured on Monday’s episode of Crimecall on RTÉ, with investigators seeking help from the public to identify those responsible, reports Breaking News.

In September 2025, the woman received a text message that appeared to come from her bank, asking her to confirm whether a payment on her account was genuine, reports Breaking News.

When she replied that it was not, she received a phone call from a person claiming to be a bank employee.

Garda Dylan Powell, who is investigating the case, explained to Crimecall how the woman was persuaded to hand over her cards, reports Breaking News.

In the days that followed, she discovered thousands of euro had been withdrawn from her account, reports Breaking News.

CCTV footage captured the cards being used multiple times across locations in Dublin and Kildare.

For the first time, gardaí are publicly releasing footage of the cards being used in an effort to identify two separate men who were seen accessing her account, reports Breaking News.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, reports Breaking News.
