Gardai believe body found in boarded-up house in Cork may have been there for over 20 years

The Gardai are investigating “all of the circumstances” surrounding the finding of a body in a Cork house.

Council staff made the sad discovery at a house on Beecher Street in Mallow after going inside to vacate it on Friday morning.

The scene was sealed off while the human remains were taken to the morgue at Cork University Hospital.

The body is feared to have been there for over two decades.

Food found in the house dates to 2001, leading investigators to believe the body had been lying there for more than 20 years, reports The Irish Times.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body in a house in Mallow, Co. Cork at approximately 12pm today 13th of January 2023. The scene has been preserved. Enquiries are ongoing,” reports The Mirror.
