Gardai believe Mayo man (80s) who shot dead friend (60s) was a tragic accident and case of mistaken for an intruder

It’s understood that the death of a farmer (60s) is being treated as nothing short of a tragic accident near Knock, Co. Mayo.

Shots were fired shortly before midnight and Brendan Kilduff sadly died at the scene. Locals are saying that the man aged in 80s believed that Mr Kilduff was intruder. It’s understood that the two men were good friends and that Mr Kilduff was a regular visit to the man aged in his 80s.

Gardai are questioning the elderly man but are working off the theory that it is a genuine case of mistaken identity for an intruder.

It’s believed that Brendan Kilduff was travelling back from a beef farmers dispute at the time of the tragedy.
