
GardaĆ cordoned off an area on Tuesday near the entrance to a halting site in Limerick after receiving reports that gunshots were fired into a home where a woman and two children were present, reports Breaking News.
The gunfire was allegedly aimed through a window of the residence at the site around 2am.
No injuries have been reported, reports Breaking News.
Armed units from the GardaĆ responded to the scene, and a forensic investigation was carried out inside the property and in the surrounding area of the halting site.
A video showing a strong Garda presence at the location, including cordoned-off sections with Garda tape, was circulated on social media.
When asked for comment, a Garda spokeswoman said: āAs this is an ongoing operation no details can be provided at this time,” reports Breaking News.
Itās believed that GardaĆ are probing a possible connection to a previous shooting that occurred at the same location on September 3rd.
During that earlier incident, at least one shot was fired in a gun attack that occurred around 4pm, reports Breaking News.
Dashcam footage taken by a passing driver, and later uploaded to social media, captured a man running across traffic on Childers Road while being chased by a group of individuals who appeared to be armed.
A recent wave of violent incidents in Limerick has raised concerns that the city could be slipping back into the gang-related feuding that led to a number of murders during the early to mid-2000s, reports Breaking News.
GardaĆ remain on high alert for further violence, though senior officials have declined to disclose specific details about their ongoing efforts to tackle the crisis.
Extra funding has been approved for Garda overtime, allowing armed units to patrol high-risk areas in response to an uptick in drive-by shootings, arson attacks, pipe bombs, and targeted assaults on homes and vehicles.
Those involved in the escalating violence have been recording the incidents on mobile phones and uploading the footage to social media, reports Breaking News.
One recent clip shared online earlier this month appeared to show a man handling and firing what looked like a semi-automatic weapon in a field.
According to Garda sources, the firearms being used in these incidents are highly lethal and pose serious risks.
The Defence Forcesā bomb disposal team, based in Cork, has been dispatched to several locations in Limerick throughout the year to deal with a number of pipe bomb discoveries, reports Breaking News.
