In their investigation into Kyran Durnin’s alleged murder, the GardaĆ are looking into whether child benefit was paid for him during the two years he was absent, reports The Mirror.

The Department of Social Protection has been contacted by officers. In May 2022, Kyran was last saw in public at a primary school in Dundalk.

A Garda source said: ā€œWe are in contact with the Department of Social Protection to find out if child benefit was paid for Kyran and if so how much. We are keen to find out if social welfare were told he was missing. It is among a number of lines we are following including other reported sightings of him from members of the public which we are checking out. We still believe he is dead and has been for some time. We may start digging in other locations to see if we can find a body in due course,” reports The Mirror.

Dayla Durnin, the mother of the eight-year-old, is currently in Ipswich, England, residing with friends. Dayla reportedly told British authorities that she didn’t know where her kid was or what had happened to him.

Additionally, it was revealed yesterday that the GardaĆ are searching through hundreds of text messages and phone conversations from various individuals connected to the missing child, reports The Mirror.
