Gardaí and Customs officials have confirmed that they have seized over 1.6 million smuggled cigarettes during an operation on Friday.
The cigarettes worth an estimated €880,000 were found after officials from both the Gardai and Customs stopped a lorry near the M1 motorway.
It is believed the cigarettes which were hidden in boxes desguised as books and originated from Dubai, could have cost the Exchequer and estimated €700,000 in revenue.
