Gardai instruct Galway City Council to fence off and close down popular outdoor picnic and sunbathing spot to prevent the spread of Covid-19

A popular picnic and sunbathing pier located between Wolfe Tone Bridge and Claddagh Quay has been closed down and ringed with fencing to prohibit entry.

Galway City Council say the shut down of the sun spot comes at the request of Gardai in line with Covid-19 regulations.

According to the Sun, the council said: “At the request of An Garda Siochana in the context of ongoing Covid-19 restrictions & with large crowds gathering over recent days, Galway City Council has reinstated restrictions to the ‘Middle Arch’ – between Wolfe Tone Bridge & Claddagh Quay – in the interest of public safety.

Some councillors have claimed the prohibition will force the public to move inside to more “high transmission activity.”
