Gardai have issued a warning to WhatsApp users about a scam that is being sent around which are hacking phones and allowing fraudsters to access users’ phones.
According to the Irish Mirror, the video describes itself as something which shows how the Covid curve is flattening off in India. In fact it is a scam video that will hack your phone in 10 seconds and which cannot be stopped.
Gardai have issued some advice on how to avoid scam calls and texts. They have advised users to beware of unsolicited phone calls, to take the caller’s number and tell that you will call back.
They have also suggested that members of the public should be aware that information used by callers does not necessarily mean that it comes from a genuine source as it can be taken from social media accounts that are publicly available.
In order to stop the spread of scam calls, they have asked that members of the public would notify banks or Gardai if they encounter any such calls so that the perpetrators can be stopped as soon as possible.
