Gardai in Laois have launched an investigation after masked raiders armed with sledgehammers broke into a house and threatened the occupants, three women and two men.
The shocking incident happened in Shaen, Portlaoise, Co Laois at around 9.50pm on Tuesday evening.
A number of items, including jewelry and cash, were taken.
Gardai confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
