Gardai have launched an investigation following the death of a man as a result of an assault in an Irish town.
The incident happened in Church Street in Athlone, Co. Westmeath, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was taken to Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe, where he was later pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made yet.
