Gardai say close to 600 crashes occurred over the June Bank Holiday




Almost 600 road accidents occurred on Irish roads over the bank holiday weekend, gardai say.

Gardai have released new figures for the June public holidays. They say a total of eight people were killed in six road accidents during the holidays.

There were also ten serious injury collisions, in which 11 people were seriously injured, 53 collisions with minor injuries and 515 collisions occurred.

Two other people were seriously injured in the fatal collision on the highway.

During this period, 2,960 speeding offenses were also recorded, while 182 drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
