According to gardaĆ, road users are most at danger of being involved in a fatal or major collision at the busiest time of year on Irish roads, which is Christmas, reports Breaking News.
Everyone who will be driving throughout the Christmas season is being urged by the GardaĆ to slow down, stay within the speed limit, and drive at a pace that is suitable for the road conditions, traffic, and weather.
It is advised that drivers take their time and exercise extra caution when travelling, reports Breaking News.
The Garda SĆochĆ”na will be conducting a road traffic enforcement campaign throughout the Christmas season, starting on Friday, November 29 and ending on Monday, January 6.
On Irish roadways, traffic incidents have claimed the lives of 170 people so far, reports Breaking News.
Even if there are ten fewer fatalities on Irish roads than there were during the same time in 2023, the gardaĆ claimed the number is still much too high.
There were two fatalities and eight major crashes that left several people seriously and potentially dead on Irish roads during the final weekend of the road safety operation before Christmas, which took place from Friday, the 20th, to Sunday, the 22nd, reports Breaking News.
An Garda SĆochĆ”na conducted around 1,000 checks over the weekend, including both routine high-visibility policing checkpoints and mandatory Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoints.
During this time, 101 persons were arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Since the Christmas Enforcement Campaign began on November 29th, 590 drivers have been apprehended, reports Breaking News.
