GardaĆ have launched an investigation into the deaths of a woman and a newly born infant whose bodies were discovered at a residential property in Co Tipperary, reports RTE.
The bodies were found by a man who arrived at the house, located in an estate in Carrick-on-Suir, at around lunchtime.
Emergency services and gardaĆ were notified and attended the scene, which was preserved ahead of the arrival of a pathologist, reports RTE.
It is believed the woman may have been the mother of the infant, who appears to have been newly born. Detectives have stated they are keeping an open mind and are pursuing all lines of inquiry.
It is understood, however, that investigators are treating the matter as a personal tragedy and approaching it in a sensitive manner, reports RTE.
GardaĆ have established an incident room and a family liaison officer is to be appointed.
Officers are also in the process of contacting the woman’s relatives and intend to speak with both neighbours and family members in connection with the investigation, reports RTE.
A subsequent post-mortem concluded that both the mother, a woman in her 30s believed to be of Polish origin, and her newborn died of natural causes. The woman’s husband, who survived along with the couple’s two other children, made the tragic discovery upon arriving home, reports RTE.
