Gardai have confirmed that there will be an increase in checkpoints this weekend in an effort to halt the spread of Covid-19.
In an announcement An Garda Siochana confirmed that checkpoints will be increased nationwide beginning on Friday.
The move which has been described as a high visibility policing plan will also see a number of on the spot checks at establishments across the country.
Gardai say there will also be extra policing in the community as officers will work with local businesses and agencies in order to help the elderly and the vulnerable.
