Gardai warn the public about an ‘arrest warrant’ scam currently doing the rounds in Ireland

Gardai are this evening warning the public about an ‘arrest warrant’ scam currently doing the rounds in Ireland.

Some people have reported receiving calls from someone who claims they have been the victim of fraud or identity theft, and that their names, etc, have been used in serious crimes like drug trafficking or money laundering, and that an arrest warrant has been issued. The caller then asks the person for either money to ‘cancel the warrant’ or bank details.

The calls sometimes appear to originate at the number 6314000, which is the real number of Ireland’s Attorney General’s office.

This type of scam is common abroad, but it’s rarely seen in Ireland. People have been asked to be vigilant.
