An Islamic TV station aired by Sky has featured Muslims scholars who called for magicians to be executed and called homosexuals “worse than pigs”.
The UK’s Office of Communications, which is the country’s broadcasting authority has found that four programmes on “Peace TV” breached its code.
Peace TV is based in Dubai and is designed to educate Muslims on their faith and give the opinion of Islamic scholars on theological and contemporary issues.
However, speech critical of sodomy and homosexuality is not permitted in the UK and in one programme titled “Strengthening Your Family – The Valley of the Homosexuals” the presenter Imam Qasim Khan said homosexuality was “unnatural” and “energised by Satan”.
The Muslim scholar went on to say
“They make laws now, the newest and most brash and insane laws, laws that protect homosexuals and even make it legal for them to marry each other.”
The Imam also said that as detestable as pigs are you would never see two male pigs trying to have sex with one another.
The Sky carried show has been found to be in breach of UK hate speech laws.
In response, Peace TV rejected Ofcom’s accusation that the Imam’s views were hate speech as, according to the report, he did not ‘call for violence or punishment of homosexuals’ and that his aim was to ‘outlaw the practice of homosexuality itself’
Lord Production, who hold the licence for Peace TV, said the March 2018 was a reflection of Islamic teaching on homosexuality.
The regulator said it will consider breaches for the imposition of a statutory sanction.
