G’day mate: Melbourne introduces lockdown and curfew to stop spread of covid

Melbourne has imposed new lockdown restrictions after a state of emergency was declared due to a
record number of new Coronavirus cases last week.

All five million inhabitants of Australia’s second largest city will be subject to a curfew beginning on
Sunday night, with residents confined to home between 8PM and 5AM. The amount of time permitted for exercise and shopping has also been reduced.

Although Australia has enjoyed relatively low cases of Covid-19, a worrying spike in cases in the state
of Victoria has caused this rapid lockdown. The country has recorded 18,000 cases and over 200 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
