An amateur team in the 11th tier of German football was beaten 37-0 after their players attempted social distancing during a match.
According to Sky, SG Ripdorf/Molzen only fielded seven players in their game against SV Holdenstadt because the latter has recently played a team with one Covid positive player. Rather than pay the 200 Euro fine for forfeiting, they decided to play with the minimum number of players leading to their extreme defeat.
Conceding nearly 40 goals, equal to roughly one every two minutes, the losing team’s chairman said the defeat was worth due to their Covid concerns and the 200 Euro fine which is ‘a lot of money for us, especially amid the pandemic.’
