Thousands of Israelis gathered for protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his official residence, the Guardian reports.
With placards bearing the slogans of ‘Revolution’ and ‘Get out of Here’, the crowds demanded the resignation of the long serving PM for corruption and his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Israel originally contained the virus successfully, but made errors in reopening the lockdown that has led to an even worse outbreak.
Netanyahu dismissed the long held allegations against him of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust as a ‘witch hunt’ and vowed to remain in office. He enjoyed a recent diplomatic success when Serbia and Kosovo joined the Trump administration in opening embassies in Israel’s contested capital Jerusalem.
