Following the US’ assassination of Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani along with senior members of Iranian backed militias in Iraq, American citizens have been ordered to evacuate the country immediately as Iranian retaliation is expected to be imminent.
General Soleimani commanded the Quds Force since 1998, a division primarily responsible for extraterritorial military and clandestine operations, also known as the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, which the US considers a terrorist organisation.
The Pentagon announced that President Trump took the action following the recent protests, which turned violent, at the US embassy in Baghdad.
The protest, which turned into an attack, came after the US launched retaliatory strikes against the Iranian backed Iraqi ‘Popular Mobilisation Forces’ killing dozens of fighters which was in reaction to a rocket attack on a US base.
Now the Iranian leadership have promised revenge for the attack in which at least seven were killed while other Iranian backed, Iraqi Shia militia leaders were arrested and US citizens have been told to leave the country without delay.
