At his funeral, the girlfriend of a man who passed away during Storm Éowyn called him “the love of my life” and that she intended to marry him and have children with him, reports RTE.
In Co Donegal, 20-year-old Kacper Dudek was killed when a tree fell on his car during Ireland’s record-breaking winds.
At around 5:30 a.m. last Friday, he was heading home from work when the event occurred, just before a 7 a.m. Status Red warning was issued in County Donegal, reports RTE.
Just minutes before, he had been on the phone with his father after spotting a fallen tree.
Students from Holy Cross College in Strabane, County Tyrone, where Mr. Dudek had attended, staged a guard of honour as his coffin was brought into the church during his burial service at St. Patrick’s Church, reports RTE.
“A deep void in our hearts” and “a great loss” were the words of Fr. Ignacy Saniuta, a Polish priest in the Derry Diocese, who spoke to the audience.
“He will be remembered as a young man full of joy, passion and love for others. Kacper was a loving son, brother, boyfriend and friend who knew how to share love, kindness and warmth with those he cared about,” Fr Saniuta said, reports RTE.

During the liturgy, the audience heard a reading of a love letter Molly had written to Mr. Dudek.
“I am content knowing I’ve met the love of my life, the man I’m going to marry and have our babies with, and grow old. Both of us will go grey, old, wrinkly and flabby, we will have races in our wheelchairs and be rude to people and get away with it. You make me the happiest girl alive, and I feel so lucky to have you in my life. I promise I will always be with you and if I had my way, I’d live in your pocket so I could be with you at all times. I’m so privileged to call you my boyfriend. You always make me feel like prettiest girl alive. You deserve the world,” it read, reports RTE.
At the burial liturgy, which was held in both Polish and English, Mr. Dudek, who was born in Poland and migrated to Lifford with his family when he was two and a half years old, was said to be proud of his Polish and English ancestry.
“He was Polish, interested in the history of Poland and proud of who he was. Kacper was full of energy, passion and joy. He knew how to enjoy life, and was not afraid to be himself, sometimes breaking the rules and never ashamed to be different,” Fr Saniuta said, reports RTE.
