In a powerful display of global gratitude, a GoFundMe campaign for Ahmed al Ahmed—the bystander hailed as a hero for disarming a gunman during the tragic mass shooting at Bondi Beach—has exceeded A$1.4 million (approximately €1.100,000) in donations.

The 43-yr-old fruit shop owner and father of two was shot multiple times while tackling one of the attackers amid chaos at a Hanukkah event, an act that likely saved countless lives. Viral video captured his selfless courage as he emerged from cover to seize the rifle.

Launched to support his recovery and honor his bravery, the fundraiser saw rapid contributions, including nearly $100,000 from billionaire Bill Ackman. Leaders like US President Donald Trump and NSW Premier Chris Minns praised Ahmed as a “real-life hero.”

As he recovers in hospital, the overwhelming support underscores humanity’s resilience in the face of terror.
