He’s going but he’s not going yet.
Tony O’Brien, the Director General of the HSE will leave his role 4 weeks earlier than expected at the beginning of July.
Fine Gael TD and Minister of State for Mental Health Jim Daly was speaking on RTE’s The Week in Politics yesterday and said that O’Brien had annual leave left in his job and that he’d use that to leave 4 weeks earlier than planned.
It’s understood that a replacement for O’Brien will be put in place later this year.
O’Brien has been the boss of the HSE since the summer of 2013.
His tenure has come under major scrutiny after the disastrous revelations from Vicky Phelan and many other women over the past two weeks.
