A member of An Gardai in Drogheda, Co. Louth is recovering today from injuries he sustained during what is described as a mini riot on Friday night.
Five thugs from Balbriggan were arrested after a fracas on West Street in the centre of the town where the officer was lucky to escape with his life.
The garda fell to the ground and was immediately set upon by the thugs who brutally kicked his face and stamped on his head as he lay defenceless on the ground.
Luckily his colleagues were able to hold off a more sustained attack with onlookers claiming that the thugs acted like wild animals.
Thankfully the garda managed to escape with minor cuts and lacerations to his face but one could only assume that he could have been fatally injured had he been on his own.
Videos emerged on social media with “good enough for the pigs” attached to footage of the brutal attack.
While another reads – “They done skippy on the pig’s head”.
