Goodwill At The Vatican: Homeless woman who gave birth in St Peter’s Square given one year’s hospitality in a Vatican institution

There was some goodwill shown at the Vatican recently after a homeless woman who gave birth on a cardboard box just outside St. Peter’s Square was given one year’s hospitality in a Vatican institution by one of the Pope’s leading staff.

The woman believed to be a Romanian national reportedly gave to a baby girl early on Wednesday morning in freezing temperatures, received an offer of accommodation in a Church-owned apartment by the head of Pope’s Francis’ charity office, Archbishop Konrad Krajewski, who visited her and the baby in a hospital shortly after the birth. According to local police reports the 35-year-old woman went into labour at approximately 2.30 a.m. just a matter of yards away from the Vatican.

The woman was assisted by policewoman, Maria Capone, throughout the birth, before she and her colleagues covered both baby and mother with their jackets until an ambulance arrived. Ms Capone told reporters: “I think it was close to zero.” “The baby regained colour on her face after we covered her.”
