Google has fired a software engineer who said AI tech has feelings
Last month, Blake Lemoine went public with his theory that Google’s voice technology is sensitive and therefore his “wishes” should be respected.
Google and several artificial intelligence experts have dismissed the accusations, and on Friday, the company confirmed that he had been fired
Lemoine told the BBC that he was receiving legal advice and declined to comment further.
The case in question is the computer Language Model for Dialogue Applications (Lamda), which Google say his claims were “wholly unfounded” and that the company worked with him for “many months” to clarify this.
“So, it’s regrettable that despite lengthy engagement on this topic, Blake still chose to persistently violate clear employment and data security policies that include the need to safeguard product information,” the statement said, the BBC reports.
Lamda is a new technology that Google says can talk in free-flowing conversations. It is the company’s tool for building chatbots.
It’s understood that the engineer said that the language had feelings, thus raising many concerns for those looking on.
