Government agrees to return pension cuts to retired public servants

According to reports the Government has willingly agreed to return pension cuts made to the many retired public servants during the recession.

It is understood that the Cabinet has agreed on the terms of a proposal put forward by the Minister for Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin that will see those on low income pensions heaving their pay restored.

It is believed that approximately 90,000 former public sector workers will receive an increase in their pension at a cost of about €90m over the next three years.

The new proposal will see former public sector workers receiving around €400 in January, €500 in 2017 and €780 in 2018.
