After months of negotiations and wrangling over resources and funding, an agreement for free medical care for the under six has finally been reached.
Under the new deal, the Government has agreed to increase funding for free care for under-6s by €67m. This represents an 81% increase.
Both the IMO and Government have also agreed on dispute resolution procedures for the upgraded scheme.
The service will commence this summer.
The IMO has stated however that it will be up to individual GPs as to whether or not they accept the terms offered in the contract.
Minister for Health Leo Varadkar and Minister for Primary Care, Social Care & Mental Health, Kathleen Lynch, both welcomed the agreement.
