The HSE claim that some 50,000 children have already been registered to receive a vaccine over the coming weeks.
Questioned about whether or not children younger than 12 will be getting the vaccine in Ireland, the HSE declared that the government would need to get permission from the EU to go ahead with such a rollout, and at this time, the EU have no plans on administering vaccines to children after 5 to 12.
It’s not yet known whether that position will change in time, it could do, but for now in Ireland at least, children aged 12 and over are the youngest that will be offered the vaccination programme.
