Government announces mandatory quarantine plans with fines up to €5,000 and prison sentences up to 6 months




The Government have announced plans for mandatory hotel quarantine for those entering the country.

Under the proposals offenders can face hefty fines as well as prison sentences if breach the new rules.

It is understood that first time offenders could face a fine of €4,000 or a one month prison sentence.

The new legislation will also see second time offenders being given a €4,500 fine or three months behind bars.

Meanwhile those found guilty of breaching the rules for a third time would face a €5,000 fine or a six month prison sentence.

It is understood that the new rules would apply to those who enter the country from the 20 countries on the high risk list.

However it could be extended to those entering from other countries deemed a risk in the future.
