Government announces that fully vaccinated people don’t have to stay in mandatory hotel quarantine

The Government have confirmed that those who are fully vaccinated do not have to undertake mandatory hotel quarantine upon their arrival into the country.

In an announcement the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said the decision comes after a rapid review which was undertaken in the past week.

Donnelly said that the Government have decided to change the legislation to allow fully vaccinated people to mandatory at home following advice from the Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn.

The Health Minister said that changes to the legislation will now take place over the coming days.

It is understood that the decision comes as the European Commission has expressed concerns over the mandatory hotel quarantine system.

EU officials say that there are concerns over the system as it may infringe on the freedom of movement for European nationals entering the State.
