The Government is today facing renewed calls for the creation and deployment of a dedicated transport police group, to deal with the increasing number of violent incidents across the network.
The calls were made in the wake of the latest incident, which saw a teenager sustain stabbing injuries while on board a northbound DART train yesterday. A second teenager, believed to be known to the victim, was arrested in connection with the incident.
Reports of assaults and instances of anti-social behaviour across the DART and other public transport services have soared in recent times, prompting calls for the urgent implementation of enhanced security for both staff and passengers.
