Government moving ahead with plans that will see cancer warning labels being placed on alcohol products

The Government are currently working on new measures that will see Cancer warning labels being placed on all alcohol products.

According to RTÉ News, the move which is being heavily backed by the Minister for Health Simon Harris will see all alcohol related products containing the label which indicates the link between alcohol and cancer.

It is understood Mr Harris is pushing to make the labels mandatory under the new Public Alcohol Bill which is currently making its way through the Oireachtas.

However although Mr Harris wants to make the labels a primary measure in the upcoming Bill, the use of such labels could be upheld as it would require EU clearance.

The move comes as the much debated Alcohol Bill is scheduled to be announced later this year.
