The Government have put forward proposals that will see smoky coal being banned across the country.
Under the plans brought forward by the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, there would be also regulations on other solid fuels.
Ryan who wants to have cleaner air is also calling for public consultation on the regulation of solid fuel supplies, said it is his intention to implement a nationwide ban on smoky coal as soon as possible.
He added that he intends to introduce more regulation on the use of solid fuels for home heating purposes.
