Government set to consider closing schools for the rest of January

The Government are reportedly set to meet later today to discuss the possibility of closing schools until the end of the month.

According to RTE News, a sub cabinet committee are expected to meet later today following a rise in Covid-19 cases.

However despite a meeting being held it is not expected that any decision will be made today.

It is understood that Government ministers will announce any decision on Wednesday following a briefing with the National Public Health Emergency Team.

The calls for schools to be closed have increased in recent days with both parents and teachers becoming concerned over safety issues within classrooms following a sharp increase in cases.
